MURCHISON-A musical memorial service celebrating the life of Carolyn Pirtle, 72, Murchison, is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Murchison with the Rev. Brooks Taylor officiating.
Services are under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Following the ceremony, a reception hosted by Murchison Methodist Women for family and friends will be held in the church fellowship hall.
Mrs. Pirtle died Thursday, March 7, 2013 at her home peacefully after five long years of suffering from knee surgery, and most recently being diagnosed with MSA (Multiple Systems Atrophy).
She was born Sept. 10, 1940 to Floyd W. (Shorty) and Beulah S. Buckels in Knox County, Ind. She graduated from Pleasantville High School, attended Indiana State Teachers College and worked at American Latex Corp.
She met Harold E. (Eddie) Pirtle at Indian Creek Baptist Camp in August, 1955, and they married Oct. 9, 1959. They moved to Wylie in 1962.
She was cafeteria manager in Carrollton and Houston schools. In 1981, she and Eddie moved to and operated a cow-calf business at their farm near Murchison, and she and son, Rush, owned and managed C Bar E Hatchery, raising and shipping poultry over the southwest region.
Carolyn was a former member of Indian Prairie Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, Sullivan, Ind. She was a Sunday school teacher, president of MMW and choir director at First United Methodist Church, Murchison.
Music was an important part of her life, and she instilled that in all three of her grandchildren who are now accomplished musicians.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and sister Phyllis.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Eddie Pirtle, Murchison, sons Michael Wayne and wife Amy, McKinney, Rush Alan, Murchison, grandchildren, Danny, Finland, Minnesota, Katy, Springfield, Mo. and Brandi, McKinney.
Interment will be at Center Ridge Cemetery, Sullivan, Ind. under the direction of Brust and Banks Funeral Directors with a graveside service followed by a luncheon at Sullivan Elks Country Club at a later date.
The family wishes to especially thank caregivers Carla Parker, Jan Jordan, Julie Mills Shelton, Kimberly Boyette, Texas Home Health and Hospice of East Texas.
