The Rev. Gerald B. Seright

Athens — ATHENS-Memorial services for the Rev. Gerald B. Seright, 92, of Athens, are scheduled for 3  p.m.,  Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Kyle Henderson and Dr. Bill Pemberton officiating.

Private burial was in Athens Cemetery.

Reverend. Seright was born April 4, 1920 in Hollis, Okla. to the late Benjamin Smith and Cora Wright Seright.

He formerly resided in Plainview 29 years, before moving to Athens in 2004, and was a member of First Baptist Church. Reverend Seright earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayland Baptist University and a Masters in Divinity at Southwestern Seminary  University in Fort Worth.

As an ordained Baptist Minister, he served churches in Ferris, LeFors, Amarillo and Plainview. He was appointed by the Southern Baptist Mission Board to Brazil, and did volunteer mission work in Iowa and Oklahoma City. He retired from the State of Texas Rehabilitation Commission following an 11-year tenure. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Northern Solomon Islands, Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands and occupied Japan.

In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by a brother, Dee Seright and sister Exie Vantine.

 He is survived  by his wife of 40 years, Janet Lea Seright, Athens, sons, Jerry Seright, Albuquerque, N.M., David Seright, Irving, daughters, Juanice Hayslip, Irving, Mary Ellen McIlroy, Hurst, stepchildren, Stan Baucum, Amarillo, Loree Green, Tyler, grandchildren, Dennis Hayslip, Christopher Seright, Catherine Scheinder, Carrie Hearne, Curtis Seright, Danielle Seright, Dawn Seright, Justin McIlroy, Whitney Davis, Emily VanAken, Samantha Jones, Stephanie Brown, great-grandchildren, Britain, Breydon, Brooke, Ben, Ezekial, Elijah, Eden, Carson, Willow, Raylee, nieces, Elaine Allison, and Sheila Williams. 

Honorary pallbearers will be the Bryon Bierhalter Study Group, and the Andrews Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Athens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Mission Funds at First Baptist Church, 106 S. Carroll St., Athens, TX 75751.
