ATHENS- Services for Chester T. “Doc” Jackson, 82, Athens are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Wednesday in Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kelly Carnes and Rev. Don Chapin officiating.
Burial will follow in Shelby Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Jackson died October 20, 1912 in Athens with his sons at his side.
He was born July 1, 1930 in Murchison to the late Nevett Monroe and Myrtle Estelle Baker Jackson, and had been a lifelong resident of the county.
Following graduation from Athens High School in 1950, he enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard Reserve. He was an excellent marksman and earned rank of Sergeant. After being honorably discharged, he met and married Mitzie Boyd. They shared 31 years together. Doc was a farmer, rancher and a long distance truck driver. His travels covered all of the 48 continental United States. He was a member of Ash Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Birdie Mae Jackson, infant son, Monte Lynn Jackson, grandson, Sean Ryan Jackson and brother, George Jackson.
Survivors include his children, Nancy White, Garland, Steve Jackson and Michael Charters, Kaufman, Rodney Jackson and wife Jeana, Athens. Grandchildren, Alana White, Katelyn White, Karlee Jackson, Colton Jackson, brothers, Jamie Jackson and wife Loy, Jody Jackson and wife Deborah, sister, Christine Everett, numerous nephews and nieces, step children, Sheila Atkins, Alton Cotten, Charles McGuire.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday.
In lieu of food and flowers, family request memorials be made to Ash Baptist Church or Shelby Chapel Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at West Place Center for the care given to Chester the past year.
