Dorothy McCoy Jordan

Athens — On Dec. 10, 2013, the angels gathered into their arms a “happy little worker.” Dorothy McCoy Jordan was born one of three children to Nadine and D.H. McCoy in Naples, Texas on June 19, 1926.

She worked for the Department of Human Resources until she retired and was an active member of various community organizations. She served in leadership roles in both the Boy Scouts of America and in the Girl Scouts of America. Dorothy loved to serve her church, to sing in the choir and devoted many years volunteering as a Sunday school leader, VBS worker, choir member, as well as serving on multiple committees.

She loved to work in her garden, specializing in roses, herbs and daylilies, and loved to share her flowers with those around her.

Dorothy was also an accomplished seamstress and loved to sew for her family.  Later in life, she discovered a passion for quilting, and quilted over a hundred quilts that she gave to family and friends. She was an active member of Eastern Star and of the United Methodist Women in Naples and later Athens.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, J.W. Jordan and by her brothers Wimpy McCoy of New Boston and Jim McCoy of Mesquite.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Greg and Vanessa Jordan of Mansfield and a daughter and her husband, Jan and Norman Jennings of Athens.  She had five grandchildren that gave her great joy: Scott Jordan, Kristen Jordan, Patrick Jennings, Rachel Lutz and Kathryn Jennings.

A grave-side service will be held at Naples Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Naples. Pallbearers are Scott Jordan, Patrick Jennings, Jacob Lutz, Mark Carter, Andrew Carter and Billy Hablinski.  Memorials may be made to the UMW fund in Athens or the First Baptist Church Choir Fund in Athens.
