ATHENS  —
Royce Glenn Donnell was born December 28, 1936 in the Walnut Creek Community of Athens, Texas and joined our Father in Heaven on December 21, 2012 in Tyler. Royce Glenn attended Athens Elementary School before moving to Houston in 1949 where he later graduated from Milby High School in 1955. Royce Glenn graduated from The University of Houston in 1965 with a Bachelors of Applied Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology.
The grief of his passing is comforted by the fullness of the life he experienced. In his youth, he traveled as a bat boy with the Houston Buffalos and exchanged bats with legends such as Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle. However, the true accomplishment of his life was his dedication to the well-being and happiness of his family and friends. To say that he will be missed understates the value of his companionship. May God hold you in the palms of His hands.
Glenn specialized in plant layout and piping design for the petrochemical industry in Houston from 1955-1980 for Southern Industrial Piping (SIP). In 1979 he returned to Athens and partnered Donnell & Martelli Services Inc., a company specializing in engineering and construction for the petrochemical industry.
Royce Glenn was a loving father and philanthropist to his community. While he enjoyed gulf fishing during his time in Houston, his greatest devotion was to the restoration of the Walnut Creek Cemetery, which was deeded by his great grandfather (J.W. Williams) in 1899. He was also a devout Methodist and member of Crescent Heights United Methodist Church.
Royce Glenn is preceded in death by his loving wife Celia Miller Donnell; mother Vallie Mae Brownlow Donnell Hughes and father Clyde A. Donnell; sisters, Carolyn Donnell O’Reilly and Doris Donnell Coleman; and brother Joe Dan Donnell. The joy of his memory is carried in the hearts of his son Damon Donnell and daughter-in-law Candace, grandson River and granddaughter Iva Sedona, all of Athens, many extended family members, as well as all who were fortunate enough to experience his loving generosity and kindness. He will be greatly missed. Pallbearers are Damon Douglas, Peter Gould, Jimmy Glasgow, Jose Guevara, Patrick Walsh and Mike Whitcomb.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday December 27, 2012 at 10:00 at First United Methodist Church in Athens with the Rev. Richard Palmer officiating. Interment will follow at Walnut Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday December 26, 2012 at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home from 5-7pm. If desired, memorials may be made to Crescent Heights United Methodist Church, 13497 FM 753, Athens, Texas 75751.
