David Allen Owen of Golden, Colorado, passed away October 10, 2013 at the age of 82.
David was born March 13th, 1931 in Athens Texas to Jack and Lillie Owen, the youngest of 4 children and a son of a Henderson County pioneer family. David grew up in Athens, and graduated from Athens High School in 1948. He attended Schreiner Institute Military Academy in Kerrville, Texas. He graduated from Baylor University in 1954 with a B.S. in Business Administration.; He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952 and went on to serve his Country for 29 years, when he retired in 1979 with the rank of Captain. He married Barbara Allen in 1953 in Waco. David was a member of the Dallas Lodge 760, A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite 32°, and Hella Temple. He and Barbara moved to Colorado in 1999 to be near their children and grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by Barbara, his beloved wife of 55 years: son, Stephen Randolph Owen; three sisters, Mary Owen Greenwood of Houston, Lucy Dee Owen McIntire, and Martha Owen Taylor, both of Athens.
David is survived by two sons, David Allen Owen Jr. of Berthoud, Colorado and Frank Andrew Owen of Golden, Colorado; daughters-in-law Susan Owen and Penny Kipley; three grandchildren, Marc Wesley Owen and his partner Stephanie, Jesse Allen Owen and wife Sarah, granddaughter Savannah Megan Owen, and four great-granddaughters.
A private graveside service will be held Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Owen Family Cemetery in the Mill Run Community, outside of Athens.

Judyth Dan Farmer Newman, 75, of De Berry, TX, formerly of Malakoff, passed away Thursday night, July 17, 2014, as a result of a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Cross Roads, TX, with Bro. Frank Upchurch officiating. Cremation arrangements are by Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Houston- Roberts, 61, Athens will be at 2pm, Saturday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Leonard L. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in North Athens Cemetery under the direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co. Mrs. Roberts died July 12, 2014 at her residence.
