John Edwin Rogers

Athens — ATHENS-Funeral services for John Edwin Rogers of Athens are scheduled for 1:00 P M Monday at East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society, 1601 Patterson Road.

Burial will follow in Athens Cemetery.

John passed away peacefully from this life Thursday, April 10, 2014 in Dallas.

He was born July 31, 1960 in Palestine to Sherwin Edwin and Juanita Carmichael Rogers. John graduated Athens High School in 1978. After graduation he worked in oilfields for several years then working for Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division located on the Coffield Unit in Palestine. Always the multi-tasker, he also owned and operated JR’s Lawn Service fifteen years. After retirement, John worked for and with his friend Stace Smith. John had a love of all things outdoors. He enjoyed working in his yard, hunting, fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson “scooter” and traveling. He was always the life of the party and loved spending time with all his friends. John was a loving husband and father. He will be missed but he will never be forgotten.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his birth father Tom Robison.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Donna Rogers, Athens; daughter Britne Curran and husband Chris, Athens; stepdaughters Miranda Birt, Austin, Jessica Woodruff, Athens; grandson Caleb Woodruff, Athens; birth mother Pat Peterson and husband Robert (Pete), Fresno, California; brothers Kent Robison and wife Kristi, Mark Robison; sister Robin Robison, all of Fresno, California along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Hill, Bryan Birt, Tom Sawyer, Keaton Allen, Todd Simpson, Travis Elledge.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Doug Curran, Adron Neill, James Fielden, Danny Elledge, Mike Garrison, Mitch West.

Visitation for family and friends will be 4-6 P M Sunday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society, P O Box 2231, Athens, Texas 75751.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Douglas Curran, Intensive Care Units of East Texas Medical Center, Athens and nurses at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas for the outstanding professional medical care and attention that was extended to John during his hospital stays.
