Athens —
ATHENS-A memorial service for George Boyd Taylor will be held 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. William C. McNatt officiating.
George passed away Sept. 26, 2012. He was born July 8, 1940 in Wichita Falls, and grew up in Nocona. He received his BBA from North Texas State University. George served in the U.S. Army Security Agency, and retired from Bell Helicopter in 1997. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder. George had three loves-his wife Sara, his dogs and golf. He was an avid golfer for many years, having started at the age of nine, playing sand greens at Nocona Golf Club.
He was a district medalist in golf three years, runner-up regional medalist two years, and twice runner-up in Glen Garden Country Club championship. George served as president of Athens Country Club Board.
He loved his pet dogs, Georgina, a miniature Schnauzer and Cricket, a Toy Schnauzer. Georgina was George's buddy and named after George. She was always by his side. They enjoyed going to McDonald's every morning for a biscuit and coffee. Cricket enjoyed her truck rides to Day Light Donuts every morning, where George bought his donuts.
He enjoyed taking Cricket to nursing homes with his wife Sara where Cricket performed tricks, prayed, and visited with the residents. During holidays George would help Cricket hand out candy and homemade cookies.
George was preceded in death by mother Dollie Druce Martin and stepfather Peter Mason Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years Sara Taylor, stepsons Michael Barnette, Tim Barnette and wife Jennifer, step-grandchildren Nevada Barnette, Casey and Alec Barnette and Kylee Barnette.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd., Tyier, TX 75701 or First Presbyterian Church.
