Athens — David Keith Smith, 56, of Athens, passed away Sept. 29, 2012. David was born March 28, 1956 in Dallas County to Billy Joe and Peggy Jean (Mooneyham) Smith. David served in the U.S. Navy, and grew up in Terrell. He was also a resident of Lake Whitney, and most recently, Athens.

David loved the outdoors, and he especially enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends. He had a subtle personality that resonated strongly with all who he met. A caring and gentle man, David will be very missed by everyone who knew him.

David has not only joined his Lord in Heaven, he also joined his son, Justin Keith Smith, who preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish David's memory are his parents: Billy Joe and Peggy Mooneyham; siblings: Susan Williams and husband, Joe; Stephen Paul Smith and wife, Donna, of Terrell; Jodi Hamilton and husband, Ron, of Pleasanton; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A funeral service for David will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Anderson-Clayton Bros. with interment to follow at Lone Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
