TYLER-Services for Lettie Mae Matthews, 89, Tyler, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013 at Cross Roads United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Newman officiating.
Burial will follow in Post Oak Cemetery.
Lettie passed away at home Aug. 29, 2013.
She was one of 11 children born to John and Bertie Bowlin on Feb. 19, 1924 in Stokes County, N.C. She married the love of her life, the late Willie Clinton Matthews, Jr. in 1945. They were married 54 years and raised four children living in Sanford, N.C., Dallas, Arlington, Houston and Cross Roads.
Lettie’s greatest joys were her family and gardening. Lettie was a member of Noonday United Methodist Church and former member of Cross Roads First United Methodist Church where she had been a resident 20 years before moving to Tyler in 2006 to be near her children.
Lettie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Willie Clinton, son Jerry Don Matthews, seven brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by: her daughter Nancy M. Myers and husband Bill, Tyler; sons W. Lee Matthews and wife Diana, Houston, Bobby Gene Matthews and wife Patricia, Tyler; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother Elmer Bowlin and wife Dot, Sanford, N.C.; sister-in-law Jackie Cook, Stephens, Ark.; brother-in-law Carl Lee Matthews and wife Bobbie, Rusk; numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Saturday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
