William K. "Bill" Davis

Athens — June 22, 1931 - October 19, 2013

William K. "Bill" Davis, 82, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013. Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Road with Dr. G.A. Roach officiating.

Bill was born on June 22, 1931 to Bud and Letta Davis in Tishomingo, Okla. Bill graduated from Dickson High School and proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. Bill married Mary Dworaczyk on Oct. 1, 1976.

Bill owned and operated Panhandle Court Reporters until 1982. Bill and Mary moved to Athens where he was a court reporter for the173rd District Court until his retirement in 1992. After retiring, they moved back to Amarillo where he volunteered at the VA hospital for over 15 years. He was a huge supporter of our veterans.

He had a love of horses and enjoyed riding any chance he got. Bill loved tinkering in his workshop and was known as the "neighborhood fix-it man" to all of the children in the neighborhood. They were always bringing their bicycles and skateboards to him for repair. He also volunteered at the musical play “Texas” for three  years.

Bill loved his granddaughters and spending time with his family. Even though he was a man of few words, his family knew that he loved them more than anything. Bill was kind, patient, loving and a hard worker who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He also had a keen sense of humor that he exhibited in a quiet manner. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include: his wife Mary of the home; two  daughters, Donna Cable and Aletta Davis-Pitre and husband Patrick, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Patricia Williams of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Mary Wood and husband Lynn of Tishomingo, Okla.; two brothers, Joe Davis and wife Linda of Denton and Reggis Davis and wife Willie of Lufkin. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Christy and Emma and one great-granddaughter Kai.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to BSA Hospice, DAV Chapter 26 or the Texas Panhandle War Memorial.
