Athens - Marlyn Wood Latimer died Aug. 24, 2013 in Tyler, after a 17-year battle with cancer. She loved her family, her pets, her flowers and all of nature. Marlyn grew up in Arlington, and briefly worked at the Arlington Citizen Journal while a journalism student in high school. She married Jerry in 1953 and lived in Denton, Laredo, Big Lake, Mansfield and Athens.
Marlyn was born in Pecan Gap to Carl and Ova Grounds Wood July 26, 1935. She was preceded in death by her parents, including her: stepfather, Don Pratt; brother, Tracy Wood; infant son, Curtis Latimer; and granddaughter, Erin Bixby.
Survivors include: her husband, Jerry Latimer of Athens; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky and Doug Box and Sandra and Tim Bixby, all of Mansfield; son, Larry and Lee Ann Latimer of Athens; grandchildren, Jessica Box and Micah McIver of Ft. Collins, Colo., Casey Box of Arlington, and Jackson and July Latimer of Athens; and one great-granddaughter, Reagan of Ft. Collins, Colo.
Memorials may be made to M.D. Anderson in Houston. No service scheduled; a private family burial will be held at a later date.
