ATHENS-Services for Joe Wayne Parker, 79, Athens are scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, May 26, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Murchison with the Rev. Brooks Taylor officiating.
Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Parker died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 13, 1934 in Collin County to the late Miles Alton and Cora Mae Shockey Parker. He had been a resident of the Blackjack community since 1990 moving from Richardson. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Richardson 32 years, retiring in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army at the close of the Korean War, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Murchison.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by brothers Billy Parker, Jerry Parker and sisters Betty Johnson and Bobbye Parker.
Survivors include his wife Judy Scott Parker, Athens; son Joe Scott Parker and wife Amy, Athens; daughters Jolinda Blair and husband Wayne, Granbury, Kristi Parker, Athens; brother Durwood Parker and wife Charlotte, Princeton; grandchildren Brady Blair, Keely Nienhiser and husband John, Jordan Welk and husband Brenton, Dakota Parker, Caleb and Madylin Martin; numerous nieces and nephews, a number of sisters and brothers-in-law.
Pallbearers will be Brady Blair, John Nienhiser, Dakota Parker, Danny Craig, Caleb Martin and Steve Craig.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
