Athens — MALAKOFF-Graveside services and interment with honors for Carleton “Smitty” Smith, Jr., 81, Malakoff are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at Dallas- Fort Worth National Cemetery with Jim Lamb officiating.

Mr. Smith passed away Sept. 18, 2013 in Tyler.

He was born May 2, 1932 in Andover, Md. to the late Carleton Richard Smith, Sr. and Doris Axon Smith. He served his country 22 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was very proud of his military service.

“Smitty” had been a resident of Malakoff since 1984. He was a member of Leagueville Baptist Church.  He was a very good handyman and loved doing projects around the house.  “Smitty” loved to barbeque and watch Texas Rangers.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey and his sister, Pat.

Survivors include: his wife of 23 years, Martha Smith, Malakoff; son Craig Smith, Hurst; stepson Matt Scales, Frisco; stepdaughter Melinda Norris, Austin; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation for family and friends will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
