Beatrice ‘Bea’ McKay

ATHENS — ATHENS-Graveside services and interment for Sarah Beatrice “Bea” McKay, 79, Athens, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday in Oaklawn Memorial Park with Father Pancras officiating. Arrangements are with Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Bea was escorted to Heaven on Nov. 3, 2012 by the hand of her late husband Jim. She fought courageously to the end of her long-term illness.

She was born in Aubrey  on Jan. 4, 1933 to the late Clarence E. and Odessa Byrom Jackson. In her early years, the family moved to Irving where she spent her school years, and later raised both her children. Bea was predeceased by her husband Henry “Jim” McKay.

She was also referred to as “Queen Crappie” of Lake Athens, and enjoyed many years of fishing with her late first-mate husband and son Wray Morris. She enjoyed many years of crafting, sewing, canning, boating and swapping fish stories with family and friends. Everyone fondly remembers many 4th of July fish fries held at her home.

Survivors include son, Wray Morris and wife Carletta, Athens, daughter, Patti Fisher and husband Gary, Double Oak, granddaughters, Tammie Gunter and husband Jeff, Jen Davis and husband Chris, grandson, Lance Lozano and wife Michelle, nine great-grandchildren, Britt, Maddison, Chelsea, Sarah, Jackson, Braden, Jake, Ridge, and Lilly, sister, Louise Burts, nephew, Terry Burts.

The family is also grateful to the special kindnesses extended by loving neighbors and friends Ronnie and Laura Ballard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Henderson County Humane Society, 900 W. College St., Athens, TX 75751.
