ATHENS-A memorial service for Joe Bennett Fields, 60, Athens is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday in Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Fields died Oct. 31, 2012 in Athens.
He was born Sept. 27, 1952 in Athens to the late Wes Billy “Boone” and Mary Alice Bennett Fields.
Joe was a lifelong resident of Athens, where he graduated from Athens High School in 1972, and attended Henderson County Junior College.
As a young man, he worked five years on a golf course in Longview. He later worked for Brown and Root Construction Company 10 years. For a number of years, he worked in Dallas decorating for expositions and trade shows. He also worked as a union teamster.
In addition to his many diverse interests, Joe was always active in ranching. He was an avid feral hog hunter, and was passionate about barbecuing and grilling.
Survivors include son Wade B. Fields and fiancé Lisa Rodrigues, Athens, daughter Amber N. Baskin, Canton, brothers Wes Boone Fields and wife Julie, Austin, Phillip Fields and wife Cindy, Whitehouse, David Fields, Athens, James Fields and wife Cheryl, Athens, grandsons Timothy Buccafurno, Canton, step-grandchildren Tatum and Kason, four nieces and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
