Alton Eugene Lewis, 68, of Huntsville, Ala., was received by our Lord on April 30, 2013. Alton was born July 1, 1944 in Athens. Alton is survived by his wife of 19 years, Emma Eckenrode-Lewis, his daughters, Stella (Christopher) Ferrell of Richardson; Deborah Lewis of Dallas; Amber (Barry) Oosterwaal of Garland; his beloved grandchildren, Austin and Jared Ferrell and Carmen and Demi Oosterwaal.
He is also survived by his sister, Mauritta Lewis of San Antonio; his brother, William (Barbara) Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz.; his sister, Linda (Mark) Cooper, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his brother, Gary (Jill Stern) Lewis of Rahway, N.J. and sister-in-law, Sue Lewis of Fayetteville, Ark. and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton B. and Alcie Mae Lewis, his sister, Sandra Thurston and his brother, John Lewis.
Alton was a graduate of the University of Texas – Arlington and was employed by DRS Electronics for 38 years. Alton was active in the Huntsville community, volunteering his time freely to all who needed a helping hand. He loved doing historical interpretation, and was known as a stickler for accuracy. Alton was known for his sense of humor, as well as his compassion and charity by all who knew him. Friends may call at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, 403 E. Broad St. on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday 10 a.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel, 6440 S. High St. Burial St. Joseph Cemetery.
