ATHENS-Services for Patsy (Pat) Ruth Green Smith, 80 of Athens are scheduled for 2:00 P M Friday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Kyle Henderson officiating.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith passed away March 18, 2014 in Athens.
She was born September 8, 1933 in Terrell to William Whitman and Willie Mae Rice Green. Pat lived in Terrell until around 1940 then moved to Dallas and graduated from North Dallas High School and North Texas University. She worked as a bookkeeper in a Dallas Federal Credit Union and later worked for Congressman John Dowdy in Washington D. C. until 1966. She was a member of First Baptist Church 50 years, a member of Senior Adult Ladies Bible Fellowship Class and Godsend Small Group. She was a firm believer in Christ and believed in the principles of the Christian service He demonstrated while here on earth.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and sister Betty Metzger.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years Marlin R. Smith, Athens; daughter Felicia Lynn Holley, LaCrescenta, California; son Sterling Smith, Dallas; granddaughter Lucille Iris Holley, LaCrescenta, California; nephews Robert Metzger, Jr., Seattle, Washington, Dr. Timothy Metzger, Point Pleasant, West Virginia, niece Elizabeth Metzger Andres, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Pallbearers will be J. W. Lambright, Dewayne Hallmark, Kenneth McGee, Gary Moore, James Jenkins and Ray Hicks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Key, Billy Davis, Dr. Doug Curran, Erv Jenkins and Bob Payne along with her Senior Adult Ladies Bible Fellowship Class and Godsend Small Group.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6-7 P M Thursday at the funeral home.
The family wishes to recognize and thank Dr. Douglas Curran and caregiver Carol Perry for their care of Pat during her periods of illness the last year. Also, all the unending prayers offered by friends and the greater community for her wellbeing were greatly appreciated.
