Athens —
Henry Gene Holland went to be with the Lord on Nov. 14, 2012 at his Cedar Creek home in Trinidad. He was born to Lucy Smith Holland and William E. Holland on Dec. 15, 1933 in Dallas. As a young man, Gene excelled at all sports, and later enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and golf. He proudly served in the Marine Corps. during the Korean Conflict.
During his life, he lived in many states across the country, and worked developing and installing communication systems as a liaison to the military, including projects for SAC, NORAD, the Pentagon and NASA.
He was active in his church, and served as a Communion minister, visiting shut-ins and the elderly. He felt his most important mission in life was his Christian faith, and accepting Jesus Christ as his savior. He was very civic-minded, devoting much of his time to Henderson County and his community.
He loved his family, extended family and friends. He most cherished his children and grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to brag on them.
He is preceded in death by his mother Lucy, father William, brother Bill, sisters Grace and Francis.
He is survived by his wife Betty, son Russell, daughter Debra, and grandsons Daniel, Coy, Cody and Cooper, and his niece Brenda and cousin June.
Memorial Services will be held at Cedar Creek United Methodist Church on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at 3 p.m., located at 100 S. Old Indian Trail, Tool. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to one of the following: Wounded Warriors; The American Cancer Society; The Community Food Pantry c/o CC United Methodist Church.
