Bettye Hart Padgett

Athens — Bettye Hart Padgett went to be with her Lord on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 after an extended illness.  Her family and faithful care staff were at her side at death.

Bettye Glyn Hart Padgett was born on Jan. 3, 1927 to Alvis Gentry and Edwin E. Hart in Athens.  Bettye went through the Athens Public School system and graduated from Athens High School as Valedictorian in 1944.

She graduated with honors from Southern Methodist University in 1947.  Bettye was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternity and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.  She enjoyed a noteworthy career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and AT&T.  In 1966, she became one of three women to serve as a unit manager.  Bettye was the first woman to serve as a division commercial supervisor, and later as district manager.  Her civic accomplishments and responsibilities were extensive as a member of many civic and cultural organizations in Fort Worth.  In 1973, Ms. Padgett was honored as a woman of achievement sponsored by the Southern Methodist University.

Bettye was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth.

Bettye was preceded in death by: her husband, John Dewitt Padgett; and a brother, William Everett Hart of Athens.

She is survived by: a sister and brother-in-law, Edwina Hart and Richard Rosson of Dallas; a sister-in-law, Bari Hart of Athens; a niece, Heather and chip Wilkerson and Oscar, Britta, Anna and Peirce of Barrington, R.I.  Surviving nephews are Alex and Kim Rosson and Sean of Heath; Baker and Jody Hart of Pompton Plains, N.J.; George and Peggy Padgett of Guyton, Ga.; and great-niece Kyli Rosson of Austin.

Memorial services will be held at the Trinity Terrace Chapel at 1600 Texas St., Fort Worth, TX 76102 at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013. Rev. Tricia Baldwin, Director of Pastoral Care, will officiate at the services.

Following the memorial service, interment will be in Athens City Cemetery in Athens at 2:30 p.m. Immediately after the graveside service, the family will receive visitors at 131 Penny Lane, Athens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in honor of Bettye be made to the Trinity Terrace Chapel or Vitas Hospice Care, 6100 Western Place, No. 800, Fort Worth, TX 76107.

    Burial will be in North Athens Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Garrett & Tucker.
    Mr. Sims died April 17, 2014 in Tyler.  He was born April 22, 1942 in Athens, and attended Fisher High School, where he was in the class of 1960.
