Athens — ATHENS-Graveside services and interment for Margaret Louise Vann, 84, of Athens, formerly of Odessa, are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at 4 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa with the Rev. Mike Dean officiating.

Mrs. Vann passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 in Tyler.

She was born March 19, 1929 in Gene Autry, Okla. to Don Lacy and Anna Corinne Hutson Gilliam. Margaret was a long-time resident of Odessa, having spent the last 12 years residing in Athens with her family. She had many friends in both East and West Texas and enjoyed the close companionship that long-term friendships afford.

Margaret was an avid reader and prided herself in skillfully working crossword puzzles. She was passionate about golf and achieved many accomplishments over the years. Margaret loved her family and was especially proud of “my girls,” as she called her three daughters. She was a faithful wife to her loving husband until his death. Her brothers and sisters remained close all of their lives.

Margaret was a sports enthusiast following baseball, football, tennis and golf. She was a fan of the Texas Rangers, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Dallas Cowboys and the Permian High School Panthers.

Most of all, Margaret had a great love for God’s Word. She was a student of the Bible and had a wonderful gift for teaching women. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and loved her friends in the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School class. She was a woman of great faith, and that faith was rewarded on Monday morning when she was ushered into the presence of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, her husband George D. Vann, Jr. and a nephew.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Hicks and husband “Bud,” Athens, Linda Dean and husband Mike, Athens, Connie Daniel and husband Steve, Dallas; two brothers Jake Gilliam, Ardmore, Okla., Les Gilliam and wife Martha, Ponca City, Okla.; six grandchildren Daphne Hagler, Chandler, Kristi Frye and husband Jeff, Frisco, Renee Davidson and husband Mike, Prosper, Amy Shannon and husband Allen, Austin, Kevin Dean and wife Jennifer, Houston, Kasey Ciesiensky and husband Mike, Garland, 10 great-grandchildren Hanna and Dylan Hagler, Luke, Taylor and Will Davidson, Mary Margaret and Hunter Shannon, Minerva Ann Ciesiensky, Alex and Abby Grace Frye and a host of nieces and nephews.
