Maxine Smith Geddie

Athens — ATHENS-Maxine S. Geddie, 83, Athens, passed peacefully from this world Jan. 30, 2014 at her home surrounded by family after a brief but valiant battle against lung cancer.

Her service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul Sherwood, the Rev. Lynette Solomon and the Rev. Dr. Bill McNatt officiating.

Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

She was born Dec. 10, 1930 in Athens to the late John C. Smith and Minnie Carroll Smith, and was the youngest of four daughters. Maxine attended Athens High School, and graduated from Henderson County Junior College in 1966 as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

She married Thomas E. Geddie on Feb. 18, 1967, and enjoyed a wonderful 47 years of marriage. After getting married, she was right where she wanted to be as a stay-at-home mom and wife. Her family was the most important thing to her, and she loved spending time with them. Her grandchildren were perfect in her eyes, and brought her an enormous amount of happiness.

She was a member of East Texas Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary for 25 years, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 177.

She is survived by: her husband, Thomas E. Geddie, Sr.; children Tommy Geddie and wife Veronica; daughter Sherry Geddie Baldwin; grandchildren Allissa Geddie, Emily Baldwin, John Baldwin, Sissy Geddie Reed and husband Ward, Teddy Geddie, Tiffanie Geddie, all of Athens, Susan Geddie Holt and husband Rich, Naples, Fla.; step-grandsons Brian and Colton.

Serving as pallbearers are Don Geddie, Steve Grant, Will Davies, Marshall Endsley, Dr. Ken Lemmon and  Harold Rash.

Honorary pallbearers are the members of Friendship Sunday School class at First Presbyterian Church.

Visitation for family and friends will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.,  Sunday at the funeral home.
