John Osorio

Athens — ATHENS-John Osorio passed away on Jan. 31, 2014.

John was a kind, giving and a loving husband, father and friend. John moved to Athens in 2003 with his wife Lois Loden Osorio. He devoted himself to his wife, his children and to the community of Athens and Henderson County after retiring from practicing law.

John, with the love and guidance of his wife, Lois, became a proud member of First Presbyterian Church of Athens. John and his wife were very active in the Republican Party of Henderson County, until John became ill in 2012.

John was a member of the Commemorative Air Force and Caterpillar Club. He was a pilot in his early years before going to Law School.  John always had amazing stories about his time in Austin and the wonderful memories he had of some of Texas’ historic politicians.  He met many lifelong friends during his years in Austin, Dallas and Athens. John was greatly loved by those important to him. And it cannot be said enough what an absolute wonderful human being he was.

John is preceded in death by both of his parents, his brothers Patrick Osorio, Gilbert Osorio and Author Osorio, as well as his grandson, Jeffrey Lee Torres.

John is survived by: his wife, Lois Loden Osorio; daughter Patricia Lee Torres and husband Daniel of Athens; son John Andrew Osorio of Athens; stepdaughter Gail Shaw and husband John of Athens; stepson Artie Michael Kirkwood and wife Claudia of Gallatin Gateway, Mont.; sister Helen Hall; grandchildren John Michael Nickless, Jackie Rountree, Patrick Allen Torres, Christopher Ryan Torres, Gina M. Gonzalez and Greg J. Torres; step-granddaughter Lauren Langley and step-grandson Kent Kirkwood. He is also survived by several nephews, and many great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Carroll Lehr Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at 3 p.m. In honor of John Osorio, donations can be made to Hospice of East Texas.
