Trinidad - Funeral Services for John Shepherd, 80, of Trinidad, are scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 at First Baptist Church Malakoff with the Rev. Nathan Lorick and the Rev. Casey Perry officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 at Parkdale Cemetery in Arlington.
Mr. Shepherd passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 in Trinidad.
John Elliot Shepherd Sr. was born June 6, 1933 in Macon, Miss. to Rufus Howard Shepherd and Martha Lockler Shepherd. John married Grace Marie Tillery in Arlington on March 7, 1987. He retired from Colt industries in Arlington as a machinist in the aircraft industry after many years of service.
He was a member of First Baptist Church Malakoff. He was a member of the Log Cabin Square Dance Club and loved to travel. John was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and tinkering. He truly enjoyed fixing anything he could get his hands on.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his son John Shepherd, Jr., three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 26 years Grace Shepherd of Trinidad; two sons, Gerald Shepherd and wife Sandy of Richardson, Keith Shepherd of Blue Mound; one stepson, John Kirschner of Fort Worth; one daughter, Beverly Luckey of Fort Worth; two step-daughters, Debbie Dowell and husband Robert of Arlington, Melody Powell and husband James of Mansfield; two brothers, Tom Shepherd and wife Ruth of Birmingham, Ala., Warren Shepherd and wife Jackie of Columbus, Miss.; one sister, Helen McKinney of Hope Ark.; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Powell, Corey Townson, Casey Townson, Brent Shepherd, Tamara Quick, April Hockett, Staci Bridwell, Krystal Reed, Taylor Dowell, Juli Sulipeck and Christi High.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Malakoff.
