Athens — Services for Gary D. Ballard, 54, of Arlington,  and formerly Eustace,  are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens.

He passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010  in Arlington.

Gary was born Aug. 20,1955 in Dallas to R.D. and Balfa Rector Ballard.  He graduated from Eustace High School as Saluatorian in 1973, from Henderson County Junior College in 1975, and received an Engineering Degree in 1979 from East Texas State University in Commerce. 

Gary married his wife Vonda Sims on June 23, 1990 in Athens.  He loved his family,  music and played the guitar, drums and sang in a band.  Gary worked on the Stealth project for Vought Industries.

He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher D. Ballard in 1977.

He is survived by his wife Vonda Ballard of Arlington; parents, R.D. and Balfa Rector Ballard of Eustace; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark Lee and Kenya Ballard of Royce City, and Kelly R. and Melanye Ballard of Decatur; father and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Joyce Sims of Murchison; nephews and nieces Ryan Stephens, Luke, Matthew, Kent, Cole, Rachael and Marley Ballard, Chad Barrows, Robin Rogers, Tommy R. and Christopher Sawyer.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening, July 30, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

Pallbearers will be Mark Ballard, Kelly Ballard, DeeWayne Rogers, Christopher Sawyer, Ron Ellis, and Cole Ballard.  Honorary pallbearers are Chad Barrows and Tommy R. Sawyer.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
