Joel Cole

Athens — ATHENS-Services for Joel Cole, 79, Athens are scheduled for 10:00 A M Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lynette Solomon and Rev. Paul Sherwood officiating.

Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Cole passed away July 1, 2014.

He was born July 29, 1934 in Van to the late Hubbard Lively and Edna Evaline Easley Cole. Joel began his working career at the General Electric plant in 1959. After three years he began installing air conditioning systems for Texas Distributors in Tyler. In 1965 he left to manage a branch in Sherman. In July, 1967 Joel opened Cole Air Conditioning in Athens as a General Electric dealership. In 1985 Trane purchased the General Electric air conditioning division and Cole Air Conditioning became a Trane dealership. Over the years Cole Air Conditioning won numerous awards including GE Monogram Dealer Awards for several years straight culminating Joel’s inclusion in a GE air conditioning national advertising campaign. As a Trane dealership he was a founding member of the Trane Comfort Specialist Program and in 2012 was recognized as a Top 10 dealership for the Northeast Texas region including Dallas, Fort Worth, Tyler and Texarkana. He received many other awards including the “Torch Award” from the Better Business Bureau, Business of the Year in 2009 and Business of the Month many times over the years. Joel loved Athens very much and supported many local organizations over the years. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. He loved to travel and had been all over the world. His beautiful smile, his courage, strength and humor made him the man everyone loved. His belief in God did not begin or end at church. Joel will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Joel is preceded in death by a brother Earl Cole and grandson Rance Hood.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years Janie Cole; children Judy Cole McPherson and husband Jim, Michael(Mo) Morrison and wife Ginger, both of Athens, Dan Morrison and wife Candie, Tim Morrison and wife Erika, both of Katy; grandchildren Holly Hood Sciba and husband Jason, Lake Jackson, Christopher McPherson and wife Sandy, Athens, Amy Conway and husband Scott, Martins Mill, Natalie Farnham and fiancé Trey Gould, Midland, Molli Morrison, Emilli Morrison, both of Athens, Breona Parnell and husband Mark, serving in the United States Army, Gabe Gross, Marissa Gross, Athens, William Morrison, Katy, McKaine Morrison, Athens, Brittnay Aaron, Corsicana, John Patrick Morrison, Adriana Morrison, Katherine Jane Morrison, all of Katy, great grandchildren Joel Sciba, Lake Jackson, Tucker Conway, Hunter Conway, Jaycee Conway, all of Martins Mill, Lane Rodgers, Tyler, Quinton Morrow, Royce City, Ross Holcomb, Athens, sister Joan Ann Siegfied, many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Albright, Paul Ingram, Adrian Neal, Les Funkhouser, Danny Tidmore, Charlie Tidmore.

Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Cole Air Conditioning, Neil Hunter, Danny Farr, Thomas Cole, Gil Traverse, C.W. Tidmore, Dexter Monroe, Ron Hallmark, Rev. Aubrey Cooper.

Visitation for family and friends will be 5:30-7:30 P M Wednesday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
