Athens — Services for Roy W. Griffith, 85, of Big Sandy, will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, in the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. David Thornton officiating, with interment to follow at Hoover Cemetery. Mr. Griffith passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 in Tyler.

He was born July 6, 1927, in Eustace to Finis Harold Griffith and Pearl Jane Greer Griffith. Mr. Griffith served in the U. S. Army, and was a Central Freight Lines truck driver before his retirement.

He is survived by his son, Gary Griffith of Big Sandy; daughter and son-in-law, Lora and George Western of Bullard; daughter, Jenny Griffith of Big Sandy; brother, Harold Griffith of Eustace; sister, Norma Wilkins of Eustace; special friend, Jean Campbell of Eustace; eight grandchildren, Michelle Glenn, Tabitha Robertson, Paul Kirkpatrick, Lisa Akins, Charles Griffith, Jr., Dustin Robbins, Amanda Western and Brianna Western; nine great-grandchildren, Dillon Robertson, Madalyn Lewis, Maralyn Lewis, Luke Akins, Ember Kirkpatrick, Hannah Griffith and Melony Bradley.

Mr. Griffith was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Griffith in 2006; son Charles Griffith and grandson, John Kirkpatrick.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
