Athens —
Marquita Beth Simmons of Maysville passed away on Friday, Jan. 15, 2013 in Athens at the age of 71 years. She was born on Jan. 21, 1942 in Maysville, Okla. to Foy Melton High and Emma Alavoice (McCaleb) High.
Marquita graduated from Hughes High School in 1959, and from business college in 1960. She worked as a bookkeeper in banks.
She moved to Maysville in 1984, and worked with her sister, Rose Snelgrooes in the Little Country Store in Antioch. After the store closed, she went to work as a health care provider, taking care of Harold and Emmagene Rogers. Marquita was always so pleasant, and enjoyed people and taking long daily walks.
In 2008, she moved into an assisted living facility in Athens to be closer to her daughter and family. She was known to her grandchildren as Memaw, and she enjoyed being a part of their lives, and going to their ball games. Marquita was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maysville. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Her survivors include her daughter, Shannon Hall and husband Shann of Murchison; brothers Bobby High and wife Susan of Wichita, Kans., and Ricky High and wife Janice of Denton; sisters Rose Snelgrooes of Elmore City and Gemey Nell Lackey of Morris; grandchildren Chase Wesley Walker and Leanna Michelle Walker; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Foy and Emma High and a sister, Joyce Dudney.
The family has requested, that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Maysville First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 745, Maysville, OK 73057.
