Funeral services for Daisy Akin will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at Carroll Springs Methodist Church with Chaplain Joe Wood officiating.
Ms. Akin was born in Anderson County on Dec. 11, 1924 to Archie Franklin and Leona Gertrude Willbanks Till, and was a lifelong resident of the Carroll Springs community.
She was a secretary for Curtis Mathis, and was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association. She served as the song leader at Carroll Springs Methodist Church for over 50 years.
“Granny Akin” loved cooking, embroidery, and playing dominoes. She also loved to fish. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and will be greatly missed by all she touched.
Ms. Akin is preceded by her parents; her husband, J. D. Akin; and one sister, Addie Pearl Till.
Granny Akin is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Pat and Tony Baker of Murchison; sisters-in-law, Helen Splawn of Athens, and Violet Holley of Carroll Springs Community; grandchildren, Jeff and Marilyn Baker, Ken and Diane Baker, and Jason and Jennifer Baker and seven great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Daisy’s caregivers; Bristol Pathways Hospice Group, Cherry Lowry, Glenda Cabiness, Jessie Wilson and Lillie Lise and to the Carroll Springs Methodist Church visiting team of Wayne and Belinda Mitchell, Gladys Cranfill and Jerry Nell Wilbanks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bristol Pathways Hospice Group, or to the Building Fund at Carroll Springs Methodist Church.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
