ATHENS-Graveside services and interment for Edward Willis McGee, 85, Athens, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Athens Cemetery with the Rev. Walter Scott officiating.
Mr. McGee died Friday, April 12, 2013 in Athens.
Arrangements are under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1928 in Dallas to Benjamin Franklin and Della Mae Willis McGee. Edward graduated from Athens High School, and obtained an Associate degree from Henderson County Junior College. He retired as Master Sergeant after a 26-year tenure in the U.S. Air Force, then retired after 15 years of service with Texas Employment Commission in Tyler. He was a farmer and known for raising hogs, goats and cows. Edward was a member of Crescent Heights Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Faye McGee; mother of his children, Mary Juanita Barnett; daughter, JoAnn McGee; brother, Melford Leon McGee.
Survivors include daughter Janice Bush and husband Hershell, Tennessee, son Robert McGee, Athens, stepchildren Debbie Mize and husband Bob, Darrell Abbott and wife Jessica, 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2013 at the funeral home.
