Joshua Chance Miller

Athens — Athens – Funeral services for Joshua Chance Miller, 26, of LaRue, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 at Sand Springs Baptist Church in Athens with the Rev. Eric Graham officiating.  Burial will follow at LaRue Cemetery.

He passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012 in LaRue.

Chance was born Jan. 26, 1985 in Athens to Billy and Shannon Flanagan Miller.  Chance loved his home community, and was often seen visiting the elderly of the town listening to their life experiences eating homemade goodies. 

Chance grew up playing with his cousins in the backwoods of LaRue, and attending  school at LaPoyner.  He loved box turtles and stray animals, and would bring most of them home to mend or keep, from dogs to the great-spotted owl. He would dream of Galapagos Islands, and he enjoyed helping out at a veterinary clinic. 

Chance also loved working on trucks and equipment building, creating new uses for equipment and building his mom’s front porch with his brother.  He travelled to Germany and Paris, France, and worked throughout the southeast perfecting his tile trade.  Chance was known for his intricate tile work. 

He was recently employed for LaPorte Industries in Athens, and had volunteered with the LaRue Fire Department. He will be forever missed by his family.

Chance was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Betty Walker.

He is survived by his parents, Billy and Shannon Miller of Athens; brothers Justin, Brandon and Colton of LaRue; sisters April and husband Zachariah of Okinawa, Rebecca and Madison of LaRue; grandparents Arlene Plott of Brownsboro and Bill Flanagan of California; nieces Tirzah and Taliah.  He was Godfather to several, and leaves numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Schlebach, Bryan Abendroth, Aaron Morris, Justin Morris, C.J. Shirah, and Derrick Dowell.  Honorary pallbearer is Michael Morris.

Visitation will be Saturday evening, January 28, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

LR was born in Athens on Jan. 20, 1938, to the late Alfred Edward, Sr. and Lola Mae Cliver.  LR lived his entire life in Malakoff, except for a short period when he worked for Houston Power & Light.  He has owned and operated Cliver's Garage in Malakoff for the past 30 years or more.
