Jack Dean Ferguson

Athens — STAR HARBOR-Jack Dean Ferguson passed away May 8, 2014.

He was born April 5, 1928 in Galion, Ohio. Jack married the love of his life, Jeanette “JD” Yeauger July 22, 1946 in New York City. He served in the army in World War II Pacific Theatre, Headquarters of Headquarters Company, Mid Pac. He began his career in telecommunications at the North Electric Company in Galion, Ohio. Jack continued his success in Carrollton with Universal Controls and was integral to the team developing telecommunications traffic scanners. He advanced to Contel as a traffic engineer and then in Andrews as District Traffic Manager. Before his retirement in 1991 Jack ended his 40 year successful career in Dallas as Project Manager for Digital Switches. He was a kind and generous man. You always knew Jack “had your back”. He served his community many years in various roles. Jack’s memberships and roles included President of Malakoff Rotary, Past Master of Malakoff Masonic Lodge # 759, 60 years 32 degree Mason, 50 years Hella Temple Shrine, Dallas, 50 years Dallas Scottish Rite, Athens Chapter # 54 Sons of the American Revolution and East Texas Medical Center Board. Jack proudly served as Star Harbor Mayor four years and was currently Star Harbor Municipal Judge, a role he served for 14 years. He loved his garden and reading. Traveling was another joy and with “JD” traveled all the 50 states and many foreign countries.

He is preceded in death by his parents, W. G. Ferguson and Beth Belle Ulrich and son Michael Dean Ferguson.

Jack is survived by and will be missed by his wife who loved him dearly “JD” Ferguson; son Robert Alan Ferguson and wife Nancy Donahue, grandson Ryan Monroe Ferguson and fiancé Laura Branningan, Alex Donahue Macon, sister Dr. Jill Dixon, brother in law Clive Moorehead. Jack dearly loved his nieces and their husbands Rebecca and Luther Burnham, Jennifer and Keith Gledhill, Lana and Dean Pfiefer, Patricia and Dave Barrons. Jack was highly regarded by many cousins, friends and his coffee friends. He will be missed by many.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 P M Tuesday in Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Kimball officiating.

Masonic graveside services will follow in Athens Cemetery.
