Durie Joe Gray

Athens — Services for Durie Joe Gray, 75, of Murchison, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday Nov. 7, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church of Brownsboro with the Rev. Jon Parker officiating, under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Canton.

Burial will be in Edom Cemetery, Edom.

He passed away Nov. 4, 2010 in Murchison.

Mr. Gray was born Aug. 29, 1935 in Edom, to Ruby Joe and Mary Almans Gray.

Our dear Popa passed from this life at his home with his family by his bedside. D.J. was married 50 years to the love of his life, Millie Ruth (Walker) Gray. He had a long work life here in East Texas: International McGraw Edison (18 years), City of Tyler, UT Tyler, Ensearch and Exploration at Opelika Gas Plant (20 years retired in 1997), owned Gray's Seed and Feed in Brownsboro.

D. J. loved to fish and hunt, enjoyed watching sports. In his younger years he played semi-pro baseball in the Tyler League. Continuing to play softball in Church Leagues well into his 50s. Popa's health started to decline in 2007 from cancer and heart-related illness.

Durie was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Darrell Gray, mother-in-law, Melvinia Walker.

Surviving are: wife: Millie Gray of Murchison; son Terry anbd Carolyn Gray of Murchison, granddaughter Sarah amd David Escomilla of Brownsboro, two grandsons, James Gray of Murchison and Josef Camacha of Murchison; two granddaughters, Emma Mae Gray of Murchison; Sierra Montelongo of Murchison; great-granddaughter Haeley Escamilla of Brownsboro; father-in-law, B.B. Walker of Murchison; nephew Mike and Cathy Gray of Houston; great-nephew Duane Gray of Houston.

Pallbearers are: James Gray, Josef Camacho, David Escamilla, Wayne Brewer, Billy Smith, Bobby Smith, Harmon Edward Walker, David Walker and Cliff Smith.

Family will receive friends Saturday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
