Services for Charles Short, of Mabank, were held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at Eubank Cedar Creek Memorial Chapel with long-time friend the Rev. James Spakes officiating. Interment followed at Payne Springs Cemetery.
Charles was born on June 15, 1935 in Lamar County to parents Lottie (Bryan) Short and Ira Short and entered into eternal rest on Oct. 21, 2013 at the age of 78. Charles was known as “Charlie” to his family and friends.
Charlie loved his family and enjoyed having family gatherings. Charlie loved having good times at his home that he built on the lake. Christmas and Fourth of July were his favorites.
Charlie was a loving, caring man. He was very hardworking, outgoing, outspoken but honest. Charlie loved cooking on the grill, but absolutely loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed music. The Rolling Stones were one of his favorites. Charlie enjoyed working in the garden.
He attended Paris High School and was the business owner of “Charlie Short Builders” for over 50 years. Charlie was Baptist by faith.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 49 years, Peggy Jean Short, as he referred to her as, “Miss Peggy,” numerous brothers and sisters.
He is survived by: his daughters, Carla Cline of Payne Springs, Lisa Peterson and husband Joseph Goodman IV of Mesquite, Melanie Toomey and husband Tim Toomey of Lavon; grandchildren, Chad Peterson, who was like a son and wife Heather, Bret Peterson and wife Cheryl, Rainy McClure and husband Victor, Ashlee Tigert; great-grandchildren, Brody, Tori, Chance, Makayla, Reese, Paisley, Logan; sister Jean Allen of Florida; brother James Short and wife Janice of Garland, Tommy Bennett and Jerry Bennett, both were like a brother; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and many friends.
