A Home Going Celebration for the Life of Alvin Henry "Black Wolfe" Smith, 60, of Waco formerly of Athens is scheduled for 1 p.m., Wednesday Dec. 12, 2012 at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul D. Harvey officiating.
He was born March 11, 1952 in Teague (Freestone County) to the late Clifton Lee and Adeline Sneed Smith.
Mr. Smith died Dec. 5, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Waco.
"Black Wolfe," as he was known by family and many friends, grew up in Teague, and attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School. The family then moved to Corsicana, where he continued his education. And while in High School, the family moved to Athens, where he attended and graduated Athens High School in 1970. A few years later in 1972, he joined the U.S. Army, and served in the Vietnam era.
He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and was active in the choir in Simsboro Community in Teague. He also attended First Baptist Church in Athens. He was a very good person, and loved to dress nicely, loved to drive nice cars, and loved sports, loved to eat and loved to dance. He will be missed by all of his family, and everyone that knew him.
Mr. Smith in preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Joe Willie "Dump" Smith, Robert Lee "Bubba" Smith and Albert Lee "T-99" Smith.
Survivors include his brothers, James "Morgan" Smith, Fairfield, Raymond Earl Smith and wife Jerry Ann, Hubbard, Clifton Lee Smith, Jr., and wife Viola, Athens, Erwin Joe Smith, and wife Anita, Athens, sisters, Dorothy Walker, DeSoto, Nell Ruth Renfro and husband Ira, Airlene Thompson and husband Bernell, all of Athens, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of wonderful friends.
"Black Wolfe's" brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 from noon to services time at the funeral home.
