Athens — Athens – Funeral services for Ms. Stella Shelton, 85, of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with the Rev. Bryan Adair and Rodney Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Lufkin at 3 p.m.

 Ms. Shelton passed away on Friday Feb. 1, 2013 in Athens.

Stella Hardy Shelton was born Aug. 9, 1927 in Stinnet, the daughter of Keith Hardy and Thelma Sumpter Hardy.  She was a member of the Lake Athens Baptist Church, and was a faithful follower.  She loved cooking and gardening, and had a love for flowers.  Mamaw’s greatest joy was all of her grandchildren.  She was loved by everyone who was blessed to have known her, and she will be greatly missed.

Ms. Stella Shelton  was preceded in death by N.R. Shelton, her parents and two brothers.

She is survived by her daughter; Judy Flowers and husband Lee of Zavalla, two sons; Rodney Shelton and wife Charlotte of Fayetteville, Ga., Randy Shelton and wife Janine of Athens, two sisters; Thelma Withers of Liberty City, Margaret Harmon of Dallas, thee brothers; Howard Hardy of Angleton, Billy Hardy and wife Linda of Conroe, Jerry Hardy of Memphis, Tenn., 13 grandchildren; Lee Flowers and wife Essie, Jared Flowers and wife Casey, Lynette Melton and husband Reagan, Scott Shelton and wife Heather, Melissa Guinn, Jordan Shelton and wife Sherry, Mark Shelton, Jerry Shelton, 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous members of the Shelton family. 

The Family of Stella Shelton would like give a special thanks to Caring Heart Hospice and Green Oaks Nursing Home of Athens.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

Pallbearers are Lee Flowers, Travis Melton, Jerry Shelton, Mark Shelton, Ryan Flowers, Treavor Melton, Rori Flowers, Reagan Melton and Lee Flowers.
