A memorial service for Donald Ray Smith, 50, of Galveston, formerly of Montalba is scheduled for 2:00 P M Saturday at his parents residence in Montalba with Bro. Larry Reneau officiating.
Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013.
He was born May 28, 1963 in Dallas to Donald Paul and Wanda Jean Horton Smith. Donald Ray was a very loving and devoted husband and family man who thought his girls were his pride and joy until his grandchildren came along…they could do no wrong.
He worked very hard all his adult life starting at the tender age of 15 working long hot hours at the chrome plating family business. He and his wife moved to Galveston Island to enjoy the sea breezes.
Donald Ray worked two full time jobs at two of the biggest resort hotels on the island until his cancer diagnosis in May. His fight with cancer was short and hard but he used both fists, always knowing that the Lord had him in his hands. Donald Ray’s radiant and honest personality brought joy to all he met. He will always be remembered by his many friends and family.
He is preceded in death by grandparents Mary Elizabeth Blanchard, Fairfield, Luther Oliver Smith, Slocum, Charles Quinn Horton, Dewitt, Arkansas and Nettie Marie Kinnard, Greenville.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis Smith, Galveston; daughters Krystal Collier & Jonathan, Tool, Kimberly Vaughn and Jeremy, Kaufman, Karen Smith and Steven Segura, Galveston, parents Donald and Wanda Smith, Montalba, brother Kenneth Smith & Blanche, Montalba, grandchildren Elijah, Ian, Ava, Collier, Kristin, Joshua and Vaughn.
If desired, memorials may be made to Cancer Treatment Center of America, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
