O. V. “Buddy” Brown

Athens — A celebration of life service for O.V. “Buddy” Brown, 85 of Brownsboro, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 19th at the graveside at Chandler Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Buddy Powell officiating, under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.    

    Mr. Brown passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in Tyler.  He was born October 24, 1927 in Munday to the late O.V and Emma Manuel Brown, Sr. 

    Buddy graduated high school in Beeville, (A.C. Jones) in 1947.  He then began his formal education at Texas A & M and was a Yell leader in 1949.  In 1953 he graduated from Texas State University, formerly, Southwest Texas State University, with a Masters degree in administration.  Following graduation, he was employed in several public schools as a coach and teacher.  In his retired years, Buddy enjoyed being outdoors.  He spent many hours in his very large vegetable garden and tending to his many flower gardens. He also was the owner of Chandler Feed.

    Buddy is survived by his loving family, including, his wife of almost 63 years, Virginia Taylor Brown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Roxie and Jerry Holley and Charla and Dee Hendrix; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Jeffery and Ashli Fulgham, Josh and Jennifer Fulgham, Cody and Elyse Kidd; and great-grandchildren, Madison Alexander, Malori Baccus, Morgyn Fulgham, Mati Kirkland, Molly Fulgham and Jacob Fulgham all of Brownsboro.  His grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately called him “Umpa”, and his happiest moments were when his family members were close.

The family will receive friends at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening.
