ATHENS — Iris Carroll Meazell, formerly of Tyler, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2010 in Athens, Texas.

Mrs. Meazell was born in Henderson County, on Dec. 7, 1918 to Henry Allen and Maudie Bateman Lambert, and was one of nine children. She is predeceased by her first husband, Boyd L. Carroll, her second husband Wilfred Meazell, and by a daughter Anne Lawson.

Survivors include daughters Sandy Green and husband Walter, Houston, Joan Segerlind and husband Ronald, Dallas; sister Marcine Pennington and husband Elbert, Tyler; grandsons Leslie Gee and Randy Gee, both of Midland, Jonathan Green and wife Alma, Rapid City, S.D.; three great-grandchildren; stepsons Col. Billy Meazell and wife Sharon, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Bobby Meazell and wife Shelia, Athens.

Mrs. Meazell was a lifelong resident of Tyler where she was a member of First Baptist Church, and served in various areas, such as teaching single adults, and presiding as President of the Triple L Club. In addition to being a homemaker, she was for a number of years employed by Medical Center Hospital in the Surgery Department, and was active in the American Association of Surgical Assistants.

The family will receive visitors from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.

Graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 28.

It is requested with gratitude that memorials be directed to a charity of one’s choice.

Special thanks are extended to family members Rosie and Harry Barrows and the caregivers at South Place Nursing Center, Athens, for innumerable acts of love and attention which served to enrich our mother’s final years.
