Funeral services for Leonard Russell McClendon, 92, of Trinidad, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Mankin Assembly of God Church near Trinidad. Burial will follow in the Mankin Cemetery under the direction of the Cooper Funeral Home of Athens. He passed away Thursday morning in Athens.
Leonard Russell was born February 12, 1915 in Tool, Texas to his parents, Isaac and Annie May Garrison McClendon. He lived most of his life in the Mankin Community and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed in industrial maintenance for many years and enjoyed farming and ranching until he was 87 years of age. He was a member of the Mankin Assembly of God Church.
Mr. McClendon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma King McClendon; brother, Rufus McClendon and a sister, Ella Andrews.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie and Leon Huff of Malakoff; grandchildren, Pam Belz of Terrell, Kameron and Lisa Smiley of Plano; great grandchildren, Billy Belz of Ft. Worth, Halee Belz of Dallas, Bryson Smiley and Ashton Smiley both of Plano; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive condolences at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m.
