An Athens man who lost control of his motorcycle while attempting to elude Athens Police, remained in East Texas Medical Center as of press time Tuesday.

Athens Police Department Lt. Bill Gurley said Adrian Lance Satterfield, 18, faces a charge of evading arrest and detention as well as various municipal traffic violations. The charges will be filed at large while Satterfield remains in the hospital for observation.

According to police reports, at 3.38 p.m. Monday, Officer Ron McCurry observed a 2002 Suzuki traveling south on South Palestine Street at a high rate of speed. As McCurry attempted a traffic stop, Satterfield turned left on Ben Belt Drive, exited on Mill Run Road, then sped across Cayuga Drive.

Officers estimated Satterfield topped 100 miles an hour as he crossed Loop 7, then lost control at a sharp left curve. EMS was called at 3:51 p.m. to transport Satterfield to ETMC for treatment.

“This all happened in the afternoon right after school let out. It’s a blessing no one in the area was hurt,” Gurley said.
