Several reports of burglaries recorded by APD

Athens — Burglars continue to take advantage of opportunities to break into buildings and automobiles, and take off with valuables.

The Athens Police Department has calls concerning several incidents in recent days that are now under investigation. The incidents include property belonging to businesses and individuals.

According to APD reports, dispatch received a call Monday morning concerning a weekend burglary at the Sudden Link building on Etna Street. Officer James Graham took a report. No information on items taken was available at press time.

Another Monday morning call concerned a burglary of a vehicle parked at the Park Highland Nursing Home on Lucas Street. Sgt. Brett Morman spoke with the complainant who said someone had broken out the passenger-side window overnight, and removed a medical bag containing a blood-pressure cuff, fingertip oxygen sensor, thermometer and other supplies.

Later Monday, APD received a call from an individual who had located a purse in a dumpster on North Prairieville Street. The purse matched the description of one that had been stolen during a Dec. 2  vehicle burglary.

Also on Monday, East Texas Transmission Service was burglarized. Cpl.  Billy Westover and Sgt. Brett Morman were sent to the business at 415 N. Palestine St. to gather information concerning stolen items and damage at the business. Det. Michael Reynolds was also dispatched to the location. The incident has been turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division.

APD dispatch received a call from Pringler Metal in the 1000 block of West Corsicana Street, in which a torch and other items were stolen. The business has been hit often by thieves in recent years.

In addition to these cases, APD has had several other break-ins of residences and motor vehicles.
