Athens — A Henderson County Sheriff’s Office traffic stop in Gun Barrel City on Thursday yielded two arrests on drug-related charges.

Thirty-nine year-old Matoka A. Lopez was booked into the Henderson County Jail on the first-degree felony charge of manufacture with intent to deliver a controlled substance (four grams to 200 grams). Lopez remained in custody Friday with bond set at $50,000.

Norman Wade Yoes, 49, was charged with manufacture with intent to deliver a controlled substance (less than one gram). Bond on Yoes was also set at $50,000, and he remained in jail Friday.

Sheriff Ray Nutt reported that Deputy Kenny Collard stopped a Chevrolet SUV on a traffic violation Thursday afternoon at the intersection of State Highway 334 and Harbor Point Road. Lopez was driving and Yoes was a passenger in the vehicle.

Collard asked the men to step out of the SUV and found that Yoes had a small amount of suspected methamphetamine in his possession.

According to Nutt, officers searched the vehicle and found duffel bags that contained several items and chemicals often used to make and distribute methamphetamine.

According to Nutt, digital scales, a glass pipe, numerous plastic baggies and a baggie containing a large amount of methamphetamine were also discovered in the vehicle. Lopez and Yoes were arrested at the scene and transported to the Henderson County Justice Center for booking.
