Athens — MALAKOFF — A candlelight service  in memory of a Malakoff High School student and her infant daughter who died in a car crash last weekend has been scheduled for Sunday.

The candlelight service will be held 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium in Malakoff, adjacent to Malakoff High School (located at 15201 Farm-to-Market Road 3062) to honor the lives of MHS sophomore Jamiya Williams and her five-month-old daughter, Alahna.

Jamiya and Alana were killed in a wreck near Crandall on Sunday, January 13. According to reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the two were passengers in the back seat of a vehicle that was hit from behind on U.S. Highway 175. Reports stated the vehicle in which they were riding had a tire blow out, and that the driver was attempting to reach the next exit when the wreck occurred.

Funeral services for Jamiya and Alahna are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Malakoff (220 West Mitcham Street) with Bro. Nathan Wright officiating. Services are under the direction of Huckabee/Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.

Condolences can be made at the funeral home’s website, tomlinsonfuneral.com.

A fund to alleviate the costs of the funeral has been set up through FBC Malakoff. Anyone who wishes to help may send a check to FBC Malakoff, P.O. Box 408, Malakoff, Texas, 75148. Please remember to designate that the funds are for “Jamiya Williams.”
