Kemp - On Dec. 3, 2012 at about 6:41 p.m., Kaufman County deputies responded to a shooting call at a residence in the 18000 block of FM 2613.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found one female, age 21, and one male, age 41, both deceased. As investigators arrived on the scene, they learned from a third party that the resident, James Alan Nix was making threats to injure himself.
The third party stated to deputies that Brittany Markham, 21, of Kemp was in the course of trying to keep James Alan Nix, 41, of Kemp from injuring himself, and the gun went off, with the bullet hitting Markham. As the third party ran toward the road to get help, a second shot was heard.
As investigators entered the house, they found both the suspect and the victim just inside the front door of the residence, both deceased from gunshots wounds.
Kaufman County investigators are still in the early stages of this investigation, with more information possibly being released at a later date.
