The Athens Review
A 29-year-old man who tried to flee a marijuana arrest was arrested, Wednesday, Athens Police Department reports said.
Christopher Jarun White was booked into the Henderson County Jail on charges of possession of less than two ounces of the substance, and evading arrest with a previous conviction. He was released after posting $10,000 bond.
APD reports indicate that Officer Wesley Hoover stopped a Chevrolet Sliverado shortly after 1 a.m. for failure to signal a turn at the corner of 4th and Jonathan Streets.
Hoover was getting license and registration information from the driver when he noticed a passenger in the back seat.
White exited from the car, and fled on foot, going south toward Williams Street.
APD officers began to search for the suspect, and later located him behind the Brown Apartments, not far from the location of the traffic stop.
Officer Josh Beaty, Sgt. Jeremy Hugghins, Det. William Carlow and Cpl. Roger Keith aided in the search.
White has previous arrests, including one in 2001 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and in 2007 for manufacutre/delivery of a controlled substance in a drug-free environment.
