Athens — The Trinity Valley Community College Choir will be running the gamut, from the whimsical to the challenging, when it presents its fall concert next week.

The concert event, titled “All God’s Critters Got a Place in the Choir,” is scheduled for Oct. 14. The concert will take place at 3 p.m. at Dogwood Church in Athens.

As is the case with all the concerts presented by the music department, there is no charge for admission.

The music performance will feature the TVCC Cardinal Singers and the TVCC Chamber Singers. TVCC Choir Director Dr. Byron McGilvray will conduct, and Kirk Overmoe will accompany the singers on piano.

“The concert will feature music from several different periods,” said McGilvray. “The concert title comes from one of the pieces we are performing, so I guess you could say we have a theme song.”

John Glover will join McGilvray at the podium as a guest conductor for the concert. Glover was a long-time director of the Athens High School band, and served the district as an assistant superintendent.

Of particular note in the selections for the concert, said McGilvray, is a piece by the Chamber Singers. The group will be performing pieces of the “Liebeslieder Waltzes” by Johannes Brahms.

The event is sponsored by the Lakeland Community Concert Association.

Dogwood Church is located at 6467 Farm-to-Market Road 2494 in Athens, three miles west of the college.
