The Athens Review
Lace up your running shoes and get ready to support the 2013 NJCAA champion Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinal basketball team as it hosts its second “Run For Funds” this Saturday at the Cain Center.
Head coach Elena Lovato and assistant coach Gerald Ewing are registering runners for this weekend's event. Action begins at 8 a.m. with a fun run for children. The 5K race is set to start at 8:05 a.m. and the 5K walk for adults is at 8:10 a.m.
“We have been getting really good feedback so far. We probably had 35 or 36 runners for the event last year,” Lovato said. “I am hoping we can have a few more this year and I know the people who ran it last year had a really good time.”
Lovato said registration for the event is $25 for ages 13 and above and $10 for children 12 and under. They will be accepting participants the day of the event starting at 7 a.m.
All proceeds will benefit the Lady Cardinal basketball program.
T-shirts will be given to the first 100 participants to register.
Age categories for the competition will be: 17-under; 18-29; 30-49; and 50-above.
There will be a cash prize for the overall 5K run winner. Also, trophies will be awarded to division winners. All children participating will receive a participation ribbon.
Sponsors for the event include Athens Screen Printing, Citizens National Bank, Best Western Plus, Creative Graphics, Edward Jones Investments-Tony Kalawe and Super 8.
The radio sponsor for the event will be KCKL radio, the new radio partner for the Cardinals this season.
Lovato said members of the 2013-14 TVCC basketball program will be in attendance at the event for runners and children to talk with after the race.
