Family Dollar break-in reported

Athens — The Athens Police Department on Thursday was investigating a break-in at one of the Family Dollar stores in the city.

APD dispatch received a call at about 6 a.m., Wednesday, from a caller who said she had seen a  man with a backpack running from the Family Dollar located at 522 W. Corsicana St.  Officer Michael Reynolds was dispatched to the building where he spoke to the store manager, who filed a complaint.

According to APD records, the thief broke through the front glass door of the business to gain entry. No information was available concerning what items were taken in the burglary of a building.

The break-in occurred hours after an attempted burglary was reported on the east side of Athens. According to APD reports, at about 12:30 a.m., a caller told police that he saw someone messing with the front door of Athens Body Shop in the 1400 block of East Tyler Street. The caller said he was at the nearby Whataburger when he saw the burglary in progress. Police were at the scene in less than three minutes, but did not locate anyone who matched the description given by the caller.
