Two arrested for drugs

Athens — The Henderson County Narcotics Officers have been busy with drug trafficking arrests in the county.

Henderson County Narcotic Officer Kay Langsford presented Judge Tommy Barnett with a probable cause affidavit for a warrant on Alton “Butch” Hawthorne, 59 of Seven Points on Monday, Nov. 25.

Judge Barnett found enough probable cause existed and issued a search warrant for the residence in the Seven Points area.

The warrant was executed by Henderson County Captain Bryan Tower, narcotics officer and  investigators Langford and Wick Gabbard.

The search warrant found Hawthorne to be in possession of a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

Hawthorne was booked into Henderson County Detention Center for Manufacturing Delivery Controlled Substance PG 1, over four  grams under 200 grams which is a first degree felony.

Hawthorne's bond was set at $7500.

An investigation in the Cherokee Shores subdivision in Payne Springs led to the arrest of  42-year-old Mikel Christopher Kirkpatrick.

On Wednesday, Henderson County Narcotic Investigators Langford and Gabbard received enough probable cause to obtain a search warrant for the residence located at 206 Lake Arrowhead in Cherokee Shores. Judge Milton Adams issued the search warrant.

The warrant was executed by Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt, Major Botie Hillhouse, Captain Bryan Tower, Investigators Langford and Gabbard.

Kirkpatrick was found at the residence to be in possession of a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

Kirkpatrick was booked into Henderson County Detention Center for possession of a controlled substance less than one gram which is a state jail felony punishable by up to two years confinement in a state jail facility.

Two additional persons contacted during the search warrant were also arrest. Danielle Renee Nayfield was arrested at the residences on two felony warrants issued out of the 392nd District Court and Roland Patrick Grogan was arrest on a felony warrant out Kaufman County.

Bond for Kirkpatrick was set at $3500.

    Amanda Woods of Mabank is very proud of her son, and for good reason. Seventeen-year-old Bryan Henderson, a senior at Mabank High School, just came home from playing baseball in Europe.
    In January of 2014, Woods received an e-mail from a college coach in New York. In that e-mail was an invitation for Bryan to join a 22-man baseball team to play 10 games against French and German National teams.

    The Athens Independent School District school board approved campus realignment Monday that will go into effect for the 2015-16 school year.
    While full details of the plan are still being discussed, the district unanimously approved adding a third elementary school, while doing away with the intermediate level.
